What are the benefits of eating healthy?

WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. Healthful eating can benefit and impact our physical, mental and overall wellbeing in powerful ways. People need to be aware that the foods they choose to eat will affect their health, appearance, emotional and energy level. In fact, 80% of premature heart attacks and strokes could be prevented through food choices and lifestyle.

A nutritious diet helps us think clearer, get a better night’s sleep, keep our energy at an even level, improve our immune system, have healthier skin and improve our mental health. Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating a wide variety of healthy foods daily. This includes eating plant-based foods more often and choosing ultra-processed foods less often.

Thus, it is crucial to adopt new healthier habits accompanied by regular physical activity to improve wellbeing and quality of life TO LIVE BETTER AND LONGER.

In this blog post, we will underline the fundamentals of healthy nutrition and the importance of eating additive-free nourishing meals. While some extreme diets may suggest otherwise, a balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in our diets is essential to sustain a healthy body. Avoid cutting out major food groups from your diet as it deprives the body of essential nutrients it yearns for, and rather select the healthiest options from each category.

The key to eating well is to enjoy a variety of nutritious foods from each of the following five food groups:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Protein
  • Dairy products
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fats and sugars

Furthermore, reducing the intake of highly processed foods and limiting it to occasional consumption is one of the most effective ways to improve your health and enhance the quality of your diet. Though processed foods tend to have a longer shelf life thanks to the added salt, artificial ingredients, refined carbohydrates and trans fats, they have little or no nutritional benefit, while taking up a chunk of your daily calorie allowance. As a result of their less-than-stellar nutritional value, they steal away an opportunity where you could be nourishing your body with healthy meals, harming your health instead and leading to weight gain.

Therefore, keeping your pantry and fridge stocked with plenty of nutritious snacks can make it much easier to make healthy choices on the go. If you’re running short on time, grabbing a packaged snack on your way out the door may be tempting. Choose Flavva’s healthy and flavorful meals, power-packed snacks and dips as they are nutrient dense, aseptic, non-GMO, preservative-free and a shelf life of up to one year.
